Gro calls me one morning, as he often does, with a song idea.
Like many before him, Gro always thinks of his best hooks during his morning shower.
He was pumped about this idea and insisted we figure out a way to capture the hook before he lost it. Yes, it happens to the best of us.
I was in the studio so I punched record as the Vanilla Guerilla chanted his hook and laid out the melody he envisioned. I hung up the phone and got to work.
A few days later Gro is ready to lay down his verse. At this time all that existed was drum and bass tracks. He recorded his part and, in typical Gro fashion, was gone as soon as he arrived.
I got back to work. A few hours later we had a rough version of the song.
Gro had some distaste for the song. I always thought it was one of our top-shelf compositions; especially after hearing his verse…which inspired the guitars.
Without Gro’s approval, I started leaking the song via our best friend (the Internet) and people started hitting us back about the track. Instead of using my own words, let me share a couple of tweets.
The song received over 1300 downloads in 2 weeks.
After giving CDs to his team at work and hearing the same thoughts about ‘Lovesick’, Gro finally accepted the fact it’s a hot song.
